An economic storm is upon us. While right-wingers and media whores engage in denial and disinformation and clueless liberals rally behind Saint Obama, intelligent people are asking questions. What caused it? How bad will it get, and can you survive it? How can we fix our economic woes? And what do Bill Gates and your local school board have to do with all of this?

If you’ve read my political stuff, you probably know that I’m passionately involved in education reform. No, not the government’s “education reform;” I want to rescue children from the corporations that have taken over America’s public schools. In fact, I’ve long been known as Washington State’s #1 education activist. (And please don’t call me arrogant unless you can name someone else who merits that title.)

With a degree in ecology and experience as a wildlife biologist, I also care deeply about the environment. In fact, I consider it the #1 socio-political issue.

Unfortunately, most Americans don’t seem to give a damn about children, the environment or democracy. The only things many people seem to care about these days are their toys (TV, computer games, etc.) and the money they need to buy more toys. So it isn’t surprising that a gathering economic storm has become the top issue in the 2008 presidential campaign (virtually the only race most Americans care about).

Before I continue, consider the following statements:

1. The fundamental law of economics is there’s no free lunch.
2. Economic reform begins with your local school board.
3. The corporate media’s favorite philanthropist, Bill Gates is bad for the economy.

Causes

• Deregulation
• Privatization
• Attacking workers’ salaries
• Attacking workers’ benefits
• Corrupt unions
• Job outsourcing
• Skyrocketing CEO salaries
• Corporate corruption
• Government corruption
• Diminishing oil reserves
• Personal greed, fiscal recklessness and political apathy

Oh, yes - and the housing cris, too.

If you think these statements sound misguided, delusional or downright wacko, then adios; this website isn’t for you.

For mature adults with independent thinking skills, I offer a collection of resources - a mixture of facts, opinion and theories - focusing on what many people are already calling Great Depression II. Even if it doesn’t turn into a literal depression, we all know things are really, really bad - and they’re getting worse.

This website serves as the project’s headquarters. It’s complemented by the following resources...

1. Great Depression II (Knol) - I predict this article will soon rank among the top ten Google hits under Great Depression II (14,300 hits on September 19, 2008)
2. Our Great Depression - Opera blog, forums and group
3. Great Depression II - Google blog
4. 25 polls shared between the Opera group and Google blog, with some related surveys posted on Amazon.com’s UnSpun site

The Enemy

• George W. Bush
• Bill Clinton
• Alan Greenspan
• Bill Gates
• Republicans
• Democrats
• Wall Street
• Media whores
• Plutocrats
• Unions
• Stupid people (mostly right-wingers and liberals)

America’s army of media whores can no longer hide the truth. An economic nightmare is upon us, and we have two choices: Continue business as usual or fight back.

I’m a fighter, and I’m in no mood for taking prisoners. George W. Bush should be tried for treason (and war crimes), not just impeached, and there are many people who should hang alongside him, from Bill Clinton (who sold America out to the World Trade Organization) to Bill Gates (one of the world’s greatest corporate whores).

In the meantime, we may also have to learn some survival skills. I don’t know what the future holds in store, but it’s delusional to think that a severe global depression could never happen again. On my knol, Great Depression II, I list ten reasons another depression could be even worse - from a much larger population to feed to rampant government corruption to a looming oil shortage.

Deep inside, even stupid people understand what I’m talking about. As CEO salaries continue to rise along with gas prices and unemployment, only the dumbest of the dumb can fail to get it. And, as far as I’m concerned, apathetic, stupid people deserve to get screwed. Unfortunately, their children get screwed along with them.

That’s one of the reasons I say political (and economic) reform begins with your local school board.

Until next time,

David Blomstrom
